‘Wake up and sleep’ is a project focused on expressing the unsettling state of sleep in our society. With sleep being increasingly brought to light within popular media and public discussion, sleep in the 21st century has been deemed to be more neglected and problematic than ever. My project aims to raise awareness on the matter, and encourage self-reflection and understanding of one’s own behavior and attitudes towards the issue. With vibrant visuals and moving elements, I aim to bring to life the chaotic surroundings that inhibit the single most important behavioral experience that we have. 3D Moving Paper Model: The model not only demonstrates the lack of control we have when it comes to our sleeping patterns, but represents the conflicting relationship between sleep and the things that inhibit it. This is demonstrated with the model plate rotating one way and the word ‘SLEEP’ circling in the opposite direction.
